2009/10
Welcome to the eighteenth series of The Edinburgh Lectures. The theme
for 2009/10 is ‘Making Scotland’, which embraces a number
of notable anniversaries. They include the 10th anniversary of Devolution,
150th anniversary of Darwin’s Birth, the centenary of the Women’s
Suffrage Movement in Edinburgh as well as the 150th anniversary of David
Livingstone’s discovery of what we now know as Malawi and its strong
connections to Scotland.
The series will focus
on how physical, political, commercial and cultural issues shape our country
and its people and Scotland’s role on the global stage.
