| A
History of Scotland is a landmark ten part series for BBC 1 Scotland,
co-produced with The Open University. The series, presented by the
writer and archaeologist Neil Oliver, is being transmitted in two
parts throughout the UK in 2008 and 2009.
Reducing the
history of a nation to ten hours is a considerable challenge: what
should and should not be included? Can any television history programme
be made without compromise? How do you reach and engage a wide range
of audiences?
In this debate,
BBC producers Neil McDonald and Richard Downes, and series historian
Mark Jardine will be joined by historian Catriona MacDonald to discuss
and debate the issues involved in presenting Scotland's history.
Chaired by journalist and broadcaster Ruth Wishart, the discussion
will be illustrated by clips from the television series.
