The Interpretation And Translation Service (ITS)

The Interpretation and Translation Service (ITS) provides interpretation and translation facilities in approximately 40 community languages as well as Braille, tape, large print and British Sign Language.

You can access the service only through any Council department, the Health Service or any voluntary organisation.

You can request an interpreter for appointments with:

  • Council Departments - e.g. Housing, Education, Social Work
  • Health Service (e.g. hospitals, GPs, dentists, opticians)
  • Other services such as the Scottish Refugee Council and the Citizens Advice Bureau.

What you said about us...

Your interpreter is an excellent advocate and representative of the Interpreting Services and her professional and personal attributes helped us negotiate through a rather unsettled and difficult period in the patient’s life.

Thank you for your time, trouble and skilled help which greatly assisted not only me in my assessment but also made the patient feel far more comfortable and at ease.

He gave me vital cultural information which was essential for my formulation of a realistic treatment plan. His services certainly contributed much in facilitating the successful outcome of my treatment plan for my patient.

I believe that more progress has been made in the two hours we spent with the proprietors with your interpretation than over all the preceding inspections.
