Industrial Action: Wednesday 24 September 2008

The Council has been notified of further planned industrial action on Wednesday 24 September. The strike is part of nationwide action by Unite the Union, GMB and Unison in respect of the 2008 Pay Award.

Council offices/buildings/cultural venues
Some Council buildings may be closed. Please check in advance before travelling.

Road Closures
Due to a march by Unison which starts at 1pm the following roads will be closed: George IV Bridge, Market Street, Lawnmarket, St Giles Street, Bank Street, North Bank Street, The Mound, Princes Street, Kings Stables Road.

Schools, Nurseries, Community, Child and Family Centres
The above services and School Crossing Guide services may be affected. Children who usually have school lunches are encouraged to take a packed lunch. If schools are to close, parents should receive a letter from their own school. Information will also broadcast on Forth one and Forth 2 or tel 0131 200 2383.

Please note: the public meeting scheduled on 24 September for the proposed closure of Westburn Primary School will now take place on 25 September from 7pm to 9pm in Westburn Primary School.

Adult Education Classes
All adult education classes that were due to take place on 24 September have been cancelled.

Health and Social Care Services (Adults) and Social Work Services for Children
Vulnerable clients have been prioritised for an emergency service. If you are aware of an adult or a child at risk tel: 0800 731 6969. All current day service users should check with their service before attending. No adult lunch clubs will be operated by school kitchens.

Housing
Homeless people or those in need of emergency accommodation tel: 0131 529 7368
Council tenants needing emergency repairs tel: 0131 200 2345.

Refuse Collection
Households with scheduled Wednesday collections should put out their bin as normal.
If your bin is not emptied, please remove it from the kerbside and represent your bin the following Wednesday. Any additional bin bags will be collected at this time.
