Kompass is a business to business database of around 200 000 UK manufacturers, distributors and service providers. Tailored searching across 25 criteria including location, activity, size, executives and financial performance provides highly targeted leads: allowing you to save on marketing budgets, evaluate prospective customers, or research potential employers. FT Intelligence and NewsUK - search for news stories across dozens of newspaper and periodical titles. FT Intelligence is available in the Reference Library. NewsUK can be accessed in any of Edinburgh's public libraries and from home

Business directories

Edinburgh City Libraries hold a wide variety of printed company directories. Some e.g. 'Kelly’s Industrial Directory', are general in nature while others, such as the 'Retail Directory' or the 'Scottish Business Register' focus on a particular area or sector - check the library catalogue for further details.

Company histories

The Reference Library holds copies of the 'International directory of company histories'. This multi-volume work contains the histories of hundreds of companies from all over the world.

Closer to home, the Edinburgh Room can provide information on the histories of Edinburgh firms, while the Scottish Library holds historical information on Scottish companies.

Edinburgh City Libraries also hold many books written on particular companies e.g. Amazon, Marks and Spencer, Eddie Stobart– check the library catalogue for further details.
