Consumers

We try to help you avoid being ripped off, by inspecting businesses to make sure that they comply with the law. If they get it wrong we have the power to enforce criminal legislation which can lead to them being fined, or even imprisoned.

Traders

We check that your business trades fairly, and offer you free advice and training on how to comply with the law.

What have we done recently?

• Ensured that none of the toys or cigarette lighters affected by the recent safety recalls were on sale in Edinburgh
• investigated illegal sales of tobacco and fireworks to people under the legal age for buying them.
