Product Safety

This Department takes its role in enforcing product safety very seriously, and carries out a mixture of inspections, test purchases and project work to ensure that the products available to consumers in Edinburgh are of the appropriate standard.

All products that are supplied in the course of a business should be safe. This can include some products that are supplied in the course of a service, and the installation and maintenance of equipment.

If you possess for supply or supply unsafe products to consumers, it may be an offence under the Consumer Protection Act 1987 or the General Product Safety Regulations 2005.
